ComEd is warning customers that it has learned of a recent uptick of imposters pretending to be employees alleging customers owe money or risk losing electric service. Please be aware that ComEd will never call customers to ask for immediate payment or request provision of a ComEd account number or account information. ComEd will never call or come to your home threatening to disconnect service, nor demand payment through alternate websites, QR code, prepaid cash cards or third-party payment apps. They will not ask for personal information like Social Security or Tax ID numbers, bank information or even your customer account number, unless you call ComEd requesting to enroll in a program. To confirm that someone is really a ComEd employee, simply call 800-EDISON1 (800-334-7661) before engaging with the person. A true ComEd employee is happy to wait outside while you make a call inside.

Report any suspicious behavior immediately. Call 800-EDISON-1 to report. If you believe you have been the target of a phone scam, ComEd urges you to contact the Illinois Attorney General’s office at 1-800-386-5438 (TTY 1-800-964-3013), or visit the Illinois Attorney General's website and select the “Protecting Consumers” link.
