Description

Provides a screening tool and online application for State of Illinois administered Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly Food Stamps) program. The program helps low income individuals and families buy essential food items. Benefits are provided on the Illinois Link Card - an electronic card that is accepted at most grocery stores.

Required Documents

These may include, but not limited to: Valid photo ID, such as driver's license, state ID or passport; Proof of your residence, such as utility bill with name on it; Proof of Social Security numbers for all people on your application; Proof of income for all members of family to be included in application, such as W-2 forms, tax returns, paystubs.

(1) Use the SNAP Eligibility Calculator on website to check if you and/or your family qualify (2) Apply for SNAP online or by downloading the application, completing it and either mailing it in or submitting it in person to local IDHS Family Community Resource Center.

        Description

        Provides a screening tool and online application for State of Illinois administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, which provides temporary financial assistance for pregnant women and families with one or more dependent children. TANF provides financial assistance to help pay for food, shelter, utilities, and expenses other than medical.

        Eligibility

        Applicant must be pregnant or have a child under 19 years of age living with them; Child who is 18 years old must be a full-time high school student; A pregnant woman (and her husband, if he lives with her) without any other children may also qualify; Must reside in Illinois; Be a U.S. citizen or meet specific immigration requirements; Must develop a plan for becoming self-sufficient and follow that plan
